ISSUES

INFRASTRUCTURE

WE LIVE IN A COMMUNITY THAT INVESTS IN SUSTAINABLE INFRASTRUCTURE

Our city must focus on mitigating stormwater runoff and reducing flooding, repairing and installing street lights, and creating a walkable grid by which pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers can all travel.

Residents are not safe if their neighborhood and homes are subject to regular flood events due to stormwater runoff.  Although Pensacola has started to address these issues, there is still much work to do.  Our city’s water quality as a whole needs to be further studied and addressed so that residents from all neighborhoods have equal access to clean, safe drinking water.

Broken street lights, potholes, or crumbling roads/bridges are not acceptable in any neighborhood.  While streetlights can provide light for an evening stroll through the neighborhood, they also help protect against criminal activity.  There is no reason that it should take a year or more to fix a street light.  I will ensure that the City meets these lighting and repair obligations in District 6.

Sidewalks are an important part of our neighborhood experience.  We need to fix sidewalks that are in poor repair and look for opportunities to add more sidewalks and bike lanes in our neighborhoods, which will help connect our city as a whole- allowing for a more walkable, bikeable, drivable grid.
